![]() WHY ARE TRANSMISSION FLUSH SERVICES NECESSARY?ĪTF lubricates, cools, and cleans the internal transmission parts. Transmission fluid change cost: Typically, between $80 and $250 the cost varies depending on where the service is performed, what fluid is used, and other factors Transmission flush cost: Typically, $125 to $250 Only drains 20% to 40% of the total ATF volumeĪ trained professional should perform this serviceĭrivers may choose to handle this themselves Runs a special solution through the cooler lines until completely clean, and refills the system with new ATF Uses natural gravitational forces to drain the ATFĬompletely removes all the ATF from the transmissionįlushes away grime and contaminants from the torque converter and cooler lines Requires a professional-grade flush machine to flush away the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) Let’s look at these two services, how they help keep your car running smooth, and how much you can expect to pay for each. I'm not nitpicking/scrutinizing, I've been reading/watching many videos about how my car works and learning to become more competent, but had a question on transmission fluid for these cvt engines.Like a turtle and a tortoise or a malted and a milkshake, a transmission flush and a fluid exchange are similar but different. ![]() My understanding is the 3x drain/fill/drive helps drain out the old transmission fluid that isn't drained out the first time when I open the drainage valve? Is this 3x cycle good for the first major fluid drain/fill, and then doing this cycle 2x at consistent intervals/more frequently okay? I assume you are supposed to use new bottles of transmission fluid in each of the 3 cycles (so I'd get 3 sets worth of transmission fluid?)īecause my local Honda dealer charges ~$185, but if the set of fluid for one refill is about $60-75, I don't think the dealer is doing more than 1 drain and fill, right? I recently changed my transmission fluid for the first time, I drained the old fluid, then poured in the new OEM hcf 2 fluid in my '15 accord cvt, then I turned my car on and went through each gear for a bit and went on a short drive, then finished.ĭrain old fluid, fill with new fluid to full amount, then run car, shift through gears (park to reverse to neutral to drive etc), then maybe drive it a bit to circulate the fluid.Īnd then go back sometime soon (within a week or same day/weekend?), and redo the drain, fill, drive, cycle until it's done 3 times in total? I've seen a lot of comments say "drain and fill 3x." I am a bit confused by this. ![]() Subreddits you may also enjoy: /r/HondaMarket /r/HondaPrelude /r/AskCarSales /r/Autos /r/Cars /r/Motorsports /r/UserCars /r/KSeries /r/Bseries /r/CarHacking /r/Acura You can edit your subreddit flair above this sidebar and below Honda by clicking the edit link next to your username.
